Decimal vs Binary Units
Decimal (SI) Units: Use 1000 as the multiplier. Used by storage manufacturers and in marketing. 1 KB = 1,000 bytes.
Binary (IEC) Units: Use 1024 as the multiplier. Used by operating systems and programming. 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes.
Why the difference? A 1 TB hard drive is actually 1,000,000,000,000 bytes (decimal), but your computer shows it as ~931 GiB (binary).
